The Rox 8.0's HR functions include ECG-precise measurements of your current, average, and maximum heart rate, along with three settable heart rate zones. Each zone has an acoustic zone alarm to notify you when you're exceeding or falling below your HR target. The display also shows your heart rate as a percentage of your maximum heart rate, along with your total calories burned and your total time in the heart rate zone.
Serious cyclists can opt to use the computer's cadence functions (current, average, and maximum), which help you ride efficiently regardless of your destination. Adding to the computer's versatility are six altitude measurement functions, nine uphill functions, and eight downhill functions. The altitude functions cover the basics (current altitude and current incline/decline) in addition to more advanced calibration functions, such as calibrating your starting altitude and calibrating via the air pressure. The uphill and downhill functions use this data to create a summation of your training session, with such tidbits as the day's total climb and descent, the day's maximum altitude, the trip distance, the rate of ascent and descent, your maximum ascent and descent speed, your average incline and decline, and your maximum incline and decline.
On top of all the other features, the Rox 8.0 includes a stopwatch, countdown timer, clock, alarm, three temperature functions, an LCD backlight, and a battery status display. The Rox 8.0 comes with a bracket for your bike handlebars and stem, and is adjustable to two wheel sizes. The computer also automatically recognizes a second bike, so you and a partner can train together using the same computer. And when you're done with your ride, the Rox 8.0's USB interface lets you transfer your training data to a Mac or PC. The information corresponds with Sigma's Data Center software, which lets you perform a comprehensive analysis of each training session. In its biking configuration, the Targa STS displays your current speed, average speed, and maximum speed, so you'll have a good idea whether you're the tortoise or the hare on the trail. You can also compare your current and average speed on the same screen, or check the trip distance and total distance (the latter is only available after your ride). The computer even offers a programmable trip section counter, a roadbook that lets you create a back-and-forth itinerary.
The Targa STS's HR functions include ECG-precise measurements of your actual, average, and maximum heart rate, along with a zone alarm that tells you when you're exceeding or falling below your target heart rate. In the process, the computer keeps track of your calories burned thus far. The Targa STS also includes a number of time-specific functions, including a countdown timer that's perfect for crits, cross, or racing against the clock; a stopwatch that keeps you sharp on intervals; a display for elapsed and total riding time (the latter is only available after your ride); and a time-keeping clock.
The Targa STS is more than just a cycling computer. The device, which comes with a wrist strap, measures your current altitude, ascending/descending altitude, and the day's maximum altitude, giving climbers and hikers plenty of essential training data (the computer also calculates your uphill altitude on a bike). Additional hiking functions include hiking time, target time, and a current temperature display.
Rounding out the Targa STS's versatility is its ability to automatically recognize a second bike. That means you can gauge the total distance and ride time of either or both bikes, a handy option for couples or friends who train together. Other features include seven language settings, a backlight, a battery status display, and a backup function that preserves your settings and info even when the battery dies. After you have installed your Nerd it is time to experience the computer's functionality. The wireless Nerd will transmit information without interference from any of the cellular/electronic noise of your surroundings. With single button operation, the Nerd's face functions as one big button, allowing you to scroll between its nine functions with ease.
